A three-part composition. I started by writing a distinctly old-school piano piece - sort-of ragtime, stride or honky-tonk. It was lots of fun, but what to do with it? Then I had the thought that it somehow reminded me of the Saratoga racetrack, nearly 160 years old and going strong, but gradually changing with the times. So I wrote a couple of additional related tunes that keep many of the "traditions" of the first piece, but evolve towards a more modern sound. The third part lets the band cut loose with some swinging bluesy playing. For the first part, I decided to play it myself and record it at home. In the studio, we have turned it into a reasonable facsimile of a turn-of-the century recording.
